KSOM conducted a webinar on “New Education Policy 2020”

A webinar on the trending topic “New Education Policy 2020” was successfully organised by KIIT School Of Management on 08.08.2020.

The webinar was conducted under the impeccable leadership of Dr. S.K Mahapatra, Director of KSOM. The session was held under the vision and idea of Dr. Shikta Singh who very nicely moderated the entire session. The session had a very wide variety of panelists pertaining to different areas viz. School education,  vocational education, ICT and education, research, reskilling, and prospects of employment as an implication of the policy. Dr. Sanjay Suar, Principal KIIT IS , Prof. Surya Mishra, Asst. Prof KSOM, Prof. Joydeep Biswas, Asst. Prof KSOM and Prof. Ashutosh Kar, Associate Prof. KSOM were the other speakers.
Prof. Shikta Singh first of all addressed the gathering welcoming guests. She set the context of the discussion by differentiating the policy from the previous policies. She stated that instead of focusing on “what to think” NEP 20 is pondering upon the “how to think” aspect keenly.
Dr. S.K mahapatra then beautifully made the participants revisit the entire structure of the policy in a brief manner. He also stated how KSOM has been gearing up with all those actions as posed in the NEP 2020, be it trying & placement,  be it industry connect etc. Prof. Sanjay Suar spoke about the vision behind the policy marking the difference between the policy of 1992 and the NEP 20. He also stated the detailed description of the policy.
Prof. Ashutosh Kar, then stated the importance of technology with respect to this new policy. He explained how technological advancement like AI, big data analytics can quintessentially bridge the gap between the intent and implications of the policy. Prof. Joydeep Biswas further added to this discussion by stating the importance of this new policy in generating employment opportunities. Prof. Surya Mishra wonderfully portrayed the relevance of the policy with respect to the present and future scenarios considering the reskilling and retooling of individuals and organizations.
Taking ” Choluteca” Bridge as a metaphor she put forth the efficacy of Adaptability to Change being the need of hour with respect to the policy. Prof.Sikhta Singh wonderfully threaded the entire discussion as the moderator and a speaker. The session was highly informative and was appreciated by the participants.
There were around 170 participants from the entire KIIT family and across various universities.

KEY takeaways from the webinar:

* The policy will definitely contribute in making education more inclusive Vocational training would contribute in creating numerous employment opportunities in near future
* In adopting a 5+3+3+4 model for school education starting at age 3, the policy recognizes the primacy of the formative years from ages 3 to 8 in shaping the child’s future.
*The policy also seeks to establish a super-regulator for education which will be responsible for standards-setting, funding, accreditation, and regulation of higher education India.
* It aims at making the education system holistic, flexible, multidisciplinary, aligned to the needs of the 21st century, and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The intent of policy seems to be ideal in many ways but it is the implementation where lies the key to success.

* Infrastructure and the right set of talents are required to be acknowledged for the success of the policy.

*KSOM has always followed the norms of providing training to its students, it has been successful in embedding the right set of skills into right talent, and thereby contributing to excellent placement, however, the quality of training is definitely going to increase with the implementation of the policy.
