KIIT School of Management had the privilege of being one of the three venue hosts to the National Management Games (NMG) ‘Chanakya’, an all India competition for corporates organised annually by All India Management Association (AIMA) which successfully concluded on 27th May, 2016 at New Delhi this year. AIMA celebrated the Silver Jubilee (25th) edition of NMG this year.

Entrepreneurship Summit Organized by KIIT Entrepreneurship Cell at KSOM

KIIT Entrepreneurship Summit, organized by KIIT Entrepreneurship Cell between 13th-15th March 2015, in association with KIIT School of Management and KIIT-TBI, was one of its kinds to happen in Odisha. Students from all over India participated in this event. This summit provided them with panel discussions on topics like ‘Problems Faced by Women Entrepreneurs in India’ and “Is CGPA More Important or Experience”.

The event witnessed multiple workshop sessions and various kinds of competition. One such was a “Hackathon” in which the students had to design that one perfect app for the upcoming modern smart cities in the country.

Webinars that took place in the summit had international guest speakers right from Germany and the U.S., discussing on the relevance and advantages of entrepreneurship. Keynote speech was delivered by Abhinav Cardea, the man behind ECG on mobile phones, who has been placed in the top 100 innovators of the world by TIMES magazine two years in a row. Apart from this there were distinguished speakers from DhruvSpace, Audi, and many more.

The biggest attraction of the summit though, was the internship camp where the students managed to pull up more than 20 start ups to come and visit the campus and offer them a chance at paid summer internships. Day 1 saw start ups like Ajatus, Diffion, Technology Tangled, Abhikya, Bigyapan, Sirf Ticket, Day 2 had Mavcure, Parallel Dots, Onergy, Pratilipi, Intugine, Slick Account, Learnyzen and Maiestas whereas Day 3 had Hackamania Pvt. Lmt, Kode Konductors, Edu Spectrum, Gain Waste Solutions, Memilog and Eidolon Innovations to give out internship offers.

The sponsors for this summit were Jindal Power, as the title sponsor, Red Bull, as the energy drink partner, Coca-Cola, as the beverage partner, Printview, as the print media partner, and Ola Cabs, as the travel partner.

KSOM Students Visit Dhamra Port for Study Tour

Real Estate Management (REM) students in the area of Marketing Management of KIIT School of Management visited Dhamra Port for their study tour on 15^th March 2015 (Sunday). The visit was meant to understand the infrastructure, ware housing and housing provisions of the new automated Dhamra Port; with its deep channels for harbouring of cargo ships; and the emerging needs and issues pertaining to management of it. The study tour was of immense help for understanding the subject with a real-time feel of the subject. Real Estate Management students were accompanied by Dr. Biswajit Das (Professor-Marketing) and Dr. Jyotirmay Mohanty (Professor-Finance).

Prof. Bijay Kumar Kandel (FBCS) from KIIT School of Management presented the paper on “Corporate Social Responsibility through Empowerment: The Case of Institution in India” on 25^th November 2014 at the 5^th International Accounting Conference, Universitas Indonesia, Depok, Indonesia. Prof. Kandel has been conferred with a very distinctive award of being the Most Disciplined Presenter in the conference.

The article presents critical insights into CSR practices in Educational Institutions with reference to KIIT Group of Institutions as a case study. The research paper demonstrates the two major CSR initiatives namely Tribal Empowerment and Education of Tribal students from KG to PG which has been taken up by KIIT Group of Institutions. The paper has been highly appreciated by the Chairperson himself.

Prof(Dr) Ipseeta Satpathy awarded at Cambridge University,UK.

Dr. Ipseeta Satpathy, D.litt, Professor at KIIT School of Management was awarded the prestigious Oxford Journal Distinguished Research Professor Award 2014, at Cambridge University, London on 1^st July 2014. Dr Satpathy received the award from Prof. (Dr) Kenneth Garren of U.S.A, who is a noted academician and researcher.

The selection committee was very impressed with the depth, quality & variety of Dr. Satpathy’s research & publication and were happy to inform that she has been able to consistently produce quality research for the international academic audience.

The past award winners are from University of Cambridge, University of Texas, University of Tennessee, University of Florence and University of Wollongong. Dr. Satpathy is the first recipient from the Indian subcontinent.

KSOM gets empaneled to conduct training for the Officers of Indian Armed Forces

The RMC team, lead by Prof. Subrat Sarangi, and team consisting of Prof. Sumita Mishra, Prof. Amrut Kara and Ms. Shilpa Das, under the guidance of Cmde. (Retd.) Dilip Mohapatra, VSM, Chief Mentor and Strategic Advisor and Prof.Ashok Kumar Sar, Dean, KSOM were able to secure this empanelment on the 26th of March 2014 after a detailed process of scrutiny and review from the Directorate General Resettlement office, New Delhi.

The Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) is an Inter Service organization functioning directly under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (Ministry of Defence). Under this empanelment proposal, KIIT School of Management will offer tailored training programmes to retired armed force personals (Officers and JCO/OR). This will help them to hone their qualifications to seek suitable employment and resettlement through a second career.

Prof. Leon from Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia visits KSOM

Prof. Leon Monroe Miller Senior Professor- Tallinn University of Technology (TUT), Estonia attended KSOM for pursuing scholastic research on the Indian ethical values and cultural context for a period of one and half month. Prof. Miller jointly worked with Prof. Biswajit Das (KSOM) and Professors from IIT-Bhubaneswar, and developed few scholastic research papers on the scope for International Business in India and International relations. He also actively participated and delivered his talk in National Management Convention 2014, organized by KSOM.

The Higher Education Forum (HEF) was launched by a number of academicians and corporate representatives to create a voice of individuals in the space of higher education, with a strong belief that reforms in higher education are imperative if India is to find a place in the League of Nations on a sustainable basis in the years to come. The forum is a Public Trust and aims to emerge as the voice of practitioners for reforms in various areas of higher education in India.

The sole objective of the forum is to help creation of an excellent world-class higher education system in India. This encompasses creation of appropriate structure, strategies, processes and development of institutions. Within few years of its existence, the forum has emerged as the largest community in higher education in India with close to 4,000 members and with chapters in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Gujarat, West Bengal, Odisha, Bengaluru, Kerala, Dubai and Singapore.

Odisha is fast emerging as the knowledge hub of eastern India with over 100 institutes of higher education in Bhubaneswar. In this context, the various panels would discuss the challenges that India is facing in higher education and how Odisha could focus on policies, innovation and edupreneurship to overcome these challenges and continue its journey to be the knowledge hub of India.
