Konfidant is a program aimed at providing the MBA students an opportunity of mentoring from eminent corporate leaders during their academic journey at KIIT School of Management (KSOM). Through the program students are connected with industry stalwarts who take over as mentors to a small group of students assigned to them as mentees. The program is managed by Prof Mohar Banerjee Biswas, who is the Konfidant Chairperson for KIIT School of Management. The program has a strong support and guidance from the KSOM leadership team, led by Dr. Suva Kanta Mohanty, Director KSOM and Dr. Sumita Mishra, Dean MBA KSOM. This year the program saw 18 industry leaders collaborating with KSOM as corporate mentors and guided more than 200 MBA students. The corporate leaders were impressed with the process of the program and the idea of mentorship and commended the students and the school for managing and engaging with industry on such a large scale.

The program started with an inaugural ceremony where the context was set by Prof Mohar Banerjee Biswas, Konfidant Chairperson. Dr. Suva Kanta Mohanty, Director KSOM, welcomed the guest to the program and explained the concept of mentoring done by KSOM over the last few years. Dr Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT University, addressed the gathering and explained the long term mentoring initiatives that the university has been taking. He also stressed on the philanthropic initiative undertaken at KISS University and urged the guests to visit the university. The session ended with felicitation of the guests followed by a vote of thanks by Dr. Sumita Mishra, Dean MBA KSOM. The inaugural session was followed by a one on one discussion between the guests and the students on resume building, career augmentation and preparation. The guests were very impressed with the preparation level of the MBA students and congratulated them on their thought clarity.

The industry stalwarts, who were a part of this year’s edition came from well-known companies like Hindalco Industries Ltd, Honeywell, DELL Digital, UltraTech, Wipro Investment, JSW, and many more. The half a day program led to the initiation of a long lasting mentorship journey between the students and the corporate mentors.

Participants showcased exceptional argumentative skills, confidently presenting their viewpoints while addressing counterarguments with poise. The judges were thoroughly impressed with the depth of research, creativity, and persuasive delivery displayed by the debaters.

After a heated and insightful exchange, BBA students Rishika Panda emerged as the winner, with Shiv Das securing the second position. The competition not only celebrated the art of debate but also encouraged students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and respect diverse perspectives.

The event concluded with a motivating address by Prof. Debi Prasad sir, who emphasized the importance of debate as a tool for learning and personal growth. It was truly a memorable day for all involved!

A number of online events were held as part of the Brand Karnival, with the Treasure Hunt being the event’s launching on the eve of Halloween. In addition to Treasure Hunt, the launch event had filler games like Guess The Brand, where the winners were presented various goodies by The Student Promise.

Prof. Saroj Mahapatra, Director, KIIT School of Management, introduced everyone to the Industry Engagement Activities of KSOM and set the context of the conclave. He spoke about the different kinds of fiscal stimulus given by the governments of various countries and unravelled its impact at macroeconomic, microeconomic and individual levels.

In the welcome address, Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT Deemed to be University expressed his views regarding the theme of the conclave and mentioned the significance of reforms and policy changes taken under Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Pro Vice Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University in her inaugural address, flagged the importance of innovation. She mentioned that disruption is inevitable and only innovation can make a difference. Citing views of thought leaders, she visualised emergence of a new normal situation and emphasised the need for an eco-system of researchers to combat such situation whenever it arrives.

Mr. Vikram Gupta, Founder and Managing Partner of IvyCap Ventures Advisors Private Ltd. were the keynote speaker. He spoke about the slew of optimistic trends which is happening in the country related to GST collection, Fintech and other financial policy initiatives. He mentioned how the Indian currency has remained stable and shared his views with respect to Venture Capital. He felt India being the 3^rd largest start-up ecosystem with huge global investments coming in; the growth opportunities in the future are immense.

The inaugural session was followed by two panel discussions which were facilitated by Prof. K K Ray.

The first panel discussion was on the topic – “Re-imagining Value Creation – Innovation and Agility in Financial Markets”. The panel comprised of Mr. Sovan Mandal, Chief Business Officer – India Mortgage Guarantee Corporation (IMGC) who moderated the discussion. The other esteemed panelists were Mr. Siddhartha Dash, Executive Vice President -UTI AMC Ltd.; Mr. Sabyasachi Rath, CEO and Executive Director – Karvy Financial Services Limited & Mr. Swarup Mohanty, CEO -Mirae Asset.

The panel discussed about how the various financial sectors operate and allocate resources and how to re-think value creation. The panellists spoke about the Mutual fund industry, Debt market, MSME segment, Fintech and the innovation and agility in each of the sectors that can drive value creation. They also shared their views on the regulatory perspective taking place in the current scenario and the impact thereon.

The theme of the 2nd Panel Discussion was- “Re-imagining Economic Reforms – Planting Seeds for Long-Term Growth”. The moderator of the discussion was Mr. Kalur Srinivas, Senior Vice President – IDBI Capital Markets and Securities Ltd; and other esteeemed speakers were Mr.Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Group Chairman – Inditrade (JRG) Group of Companies; Mr. Siddharth Sanyal, Chief Economist- Bandhan Bank; Ms. Hina Kamra, Executive Vice President – Edelweiss Real Estate Fund & Mr. T.N. Sivasubramanian, CFO – Shibaura Machine.

The panel discussed about the impact of Covid-19 on India’s growth and stated the importance of demand side support in the near to medium term for economic revival. The panel believed that there is a need for rapid infrastructural development and emphasised the availability of long term capital to achieve it. The panellists also shed light on the reforms in the financial sector and debated on the areas of reforms that have been beneficial for the economy and the areas where a lot more has to be done.

The conclave delegates had a general view that though the economy has suffered and there are challenges, government is taking initiatives to mitigate the situation and brighter days are ahead.

The second half of the conclave consisted of eight workshops for the students with topics related to MSMEs, Investor Psychology, Start-up Funding, Digitization of Financial Services, Revival of Financial health of the Economy, International Capital Flows to Emerging Economies and Stock Market Investment.

This was one of four national level conclaves which are annually organized by KIIT School of Management in the areas of Finance, Marketing, HR and Business Analytics to bring the students closer to industry. This year’s Finance conclave provided the students with an opportunity to interact with business leaders and policy makers from across the nation. The conclave created a platform to connect industry professionals, academia and students.

The speaker of the day was Shaikh Aminkhan, (I.R.S.), Dy. Regional Passport Officer, Kolkata. Mr Khan graduated as an Aeronautical Engineer from Gujarat University, pursued the civil services, and cleared the same at first attempt in 2010. He is an officer of the Indian Revenue Service of 2011 batch. After completion of the foundation course and training at National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics at Faridabad, Mr Khan had an opportunity to visit the Maxwell School of Syracuse University, Syracuse, United States, to understand the administration of taxes at the United States, and participated in the International Meet on CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives) organised by the United States at Bangkok, Thailand, with other participating countries. He has worked in the different portfolios of administering and monitoring Indirect Taxations, anti-smuggling activities of Customs and Narcotics at Bengaluru, and is presently posted on deputation with Ministry of External Affairs, Regional Passport Office, Kolkata. Mr Khan is also pursuing law from University of Calcutta at present and when he is not busy being a brilliant officer, he loves to play cricket and volleyball.

Rabindra has nearly 1.5 decades of corporate experience into areas like Strategy, Finance, Analytics, Operations and Program Management. He specializes in handling large and complex programs spread across multi geographies. Currently, he works as the Strategy and Program Manager for a Global Program in Credit Suisse. Prior to this, he was heading Strategy and Operations for the largest Business Unit of Capgemini Financial Services. He is an avid reader, a die-hard quizzer and has a great passion for coaching and mentoring young career starters. He holds a B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from VSSUT Burla & MBA (Finance & Strategy) from XIMB. The webinar was co-ordinated by Prof. Isa Mishra.
