Participants showcased exceptional argumentative skills, confidently presenting their viewpoints while addressing counterarguments with poise. The judges were thoroughly impressed with the depth of research, creativity, and persuasive delivery displayed by the debaters.

After a heated and insightful exchange, BBA students Rishika Panda emerged as the winner, with Shiv Das securing the second position. The competition not only celebrated the art of debate but also encouraged students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and respect diverse perspectives.

The event concluded with a motivating address by Prof. Debi Prasad sir, who emphasized the importance of debate as a tool for learning and personal growth. It was truly a memorable day for all involved!

Self-defence is the act of protecting oneself, one’s possessions, or another person from bodily injury. Women’s lives depend heavily on self defence. Women’s physical incapabilities frequently cause them to become victims. By using self-defence tactics, they can take charge of scenarios where they might otherwise become the target of physical or verbal abuse, among other things. These methods also boost confidence in realising that you should stop someone if they cross your boundaries.

It was a great privilege for our club to organize this event in the premises of KISS – Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences and we would like to extend our heartfelt regards to Supriya ma’am for being a close contact with us which ultimately helped us to organize this event and also to give us a tour of the campus and also a chance to interact with such talented kids.

The audience was welcomed by Prof. S. K. Mahapatra, Director, KSOM following lamp lighting by the guest speaker – Sri Anil Swarup and other dignitaries present – Sri Debraj Pradhan, Prof. Sumita Mishra, Dean, KSOM and Sri S. N. Mishra, Professor Emeritus, KSOM. The session started with an educative and energetic address by Sri Anil Swarup (Retd. IAS) on Saturday, 6th August, 2022; 4 pm onwards at Campus 7 Auditorium. Sri Swarup, Former Civil Servant belonging to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), was Secretary to Government of India in the Ministry of Coal and subsequently in Department of School Education. He brought transparency in Coal Auctions and pioneered Examination reforms. Before joining IAS, he worked as an Indian Police Service officer for one year. Swarup joined IAS in 1981 and is the recipient of Director’s gold medal for “best officer trainee” of his batch at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. Post retirement, Sri Swarup started a movement, “Nexus of Good” and set up a Foundation to identify, understand, appreciate, replicate and scale Good work. His administrative prowess can be seen in three bestselling books, authored by him, books which speak in detail about the different facets of being a civil servant.

The address was followed by a Dialogue session with Sri Anil Swarup by Sri Debraj Pradhan, His Excellency Ambassador & DG, International Relations, KIIT DU. He worked at Indian Foreign Service and at the Ministry of External Affairs. After Foreign Service training in India he was posted as Third Secretary/Second Secretary to the High Commission of India. He was posted as First Secretary and later Counselor overseeing Commercial matters in the Embassy of India, Buenos Aires. He was appointed as Ambassador of India to Angola in October 2011 and continued as Ambassador of India in Luanda and later was accredited as Ambassador of India to the Republic of Chile. His last assignment was Ambassador to Norway.

Prof. Mishra who has himself served the Government of India in leadership roles before proving his excellence in academics, moderated the Dialogue session and presented words of gratitude.

The session was extremely interactive with a lot of questions being answered by the speaker. Students were awarded with books for their innovative queries. The informative session witnessed an auditorium packed with more than 300 MBA I & II students, along with faculty members and guests.

This speech exercise had a distinctive structure since the speakers needed to change sides within a minute without sounding absurd or illogical. In this unique battle of perspectives, there was scope for both fun and learning which not only infused the spirit of healthy competition but also showcased how speakers should go about developing arguments. Appreciating the efforts of everyone for the great success of the event, Prof. Saroj Mohapatra, Director, KSOM said that such contests help students develop “critical thinking” which is an essential skill at the workplace today. Prof. Sumita MIshra, Dean, School of Management, set the context of this competition by highlighting the importance of taking part in such public speaking contests. The members of the jury, Prof. Praveen Mohanty and Prof. Ayushi Raichoudhury were impressed by the way the participants executed their speeches.

Sohini Ghosh of MBA 1st year was adjudicated to be the Winner and Tapaswani Guru of BBA II got the Runner-Up prize. Prizes were given away by Prof. Isa Mishra, Chairperson, KONFABULATE Knowledge Dialogue Series and Dr. Shikta Singh, Chairperson, Student Development Committee. Prof. Ritika Sharma, Co-Chairperson, SDC shared her reflections on the event. Ms. Somya Singh and Ms. Teena Rose Tom did the anchoring. Biswaroop Mohanty and Aman Srivastav contributed significantly as volunteers. In the end, a formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Ipsita Nayak, the Faculty coordinator of the program.

After the introduction and welcome, the panel discussion was carried forward by moderator Mayank. He began with the brief introduction about woman entrepreneurs. Riddhi took the discussion forward and explained being a woman how she would see herself as a future women entrepreneur. She started with a famous quote “There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved”—Swami Vivekananda. Mayank added a point that we could even see the change in the society like many women entrepreneurs are coming up with such innovative ideal business such as Vandana Luthra – the founder of VLCC; Falguni Nayar CEO of Nykaa company etc. Then Simon added his insights to the question asked by Mayank about how the employed women makes efforts in the growth of Indian economy. Simon too enlighten his saying by adding about Wangarĩ Muta Maathai  was a Kenyan social, environmental and political activist and the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Bicky expressed his views by adding, “The world needs leaders with compassion .And that means the world needs more female leaders . Biologically,  females have more sensitivity about other’s wellbeing” Dalai Lama and gave the facts and figures about the present scenario of women entrepreneur.  The panel discussion was concluded by Mayank summarising all of the panellists’ points, stating that in order to truly advance women’s potential, women must take a stand and begin focusing on their dreams which should be respected and supported by all. The event was truly insightful and involving, and all of the panellists’ efforts were worthy of praise.
