Powered by KIIT School of Management, the conclave was one of the biggest HR events to have been held in India and saw participation by 500 eminent corporate personalities and international speakers from 5 countries spanning 3 continents. The conclave had an audience of more than 10000 from industry, academia and student community.

Dr. Saroj Mahapatra, Director, KSOM welcomed the esteemed guests and introduced the theme of the conclave.

Dr. Sanjay Muthal, CEO, Kontempore Leadership & Business Solutions, Knowledge Partner of HR Konclave mentioned that the HR Konclave at KIIT has become one of the key events in India’s corporate calendar. He talked about how the workplace today has become ‘Phygital – a combination of physical and digital’. He said that the pandemic has fast tracked the implementation of technology across various industries.

Prof. Hrushikesha Mohanty, Vice-Chancellor, KIIT DU, in his address, spoke about how rapidly the challenges of the corporate world are changing. He emphasized that organizations should deal with changes with a humane touch.

Mr. K. A. Narayan, President HR, Raymond was the first keynote speaker. He opined that virtual will never be able to replace physical and in a digital world, human relations would be the most critical cog in business.

The second keynote speech was delivered by Mr. Milind K. Oza, Executive Chairman, Wollongong Coal Limited, New South Wales, Australia. He explained about the changes that his company faced with the outbreak of pandemic. He cited a few good aspects of the hybrid mode like effective communication and better efficacy of the workforce.

Prof. (Dr.) Achyuta Samanta, Hon’ble Founder, KIIT & KISS in his inaugural address welcomed all the esteemed dignitaries and expressed his happiness to be connecting the students and corporate dignitaries. He also spoke about how KIIT in this ‘phygital’ mode has managed its 10000+ staff in an admirable way, thereby getting the best Workplace of the Year Award by Times Higher Education, 2020. He mentioned that ultimately the effectiveness of the workforce depended on effective and empathetic leadership.

Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Pro Vice-Chancellor, KIIT DU, believes that maintaining relationships, good human interactions and managing emotions in the ‘phygital’ world is critical to organizational success.

Prof. Satya Narayan Mishra, Dean, KSOM, proposed the Vote of Thanks and summarized the deliberations.

The inaugural session was followed by an International Panel Discussion on the theme – “Rise of Phygital: The New HR 4.1”. It was moderated by Dr. S.K Mahapatra, Director, KSOM. The panellists were Ms. Taiwo ‘Dayo-Abatan, Group Head, Human Capital and Corporate Services – Primera Africa Finance Group, Lagos; Ms. Surani Amerasinghe, Head of Human Resources – Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC, Sri Lanka; Mr. Eugene Lam, Sr. Vice President, HR – ST Engineering, Singapore and Mr. Michael Miliopoulos, Human Resources Director – ANTISEL, Greece. The panel spoke about various proactive things HR did during the pandemic like forming Employee Assistance Teams, taking care of employee families, giving emotional support to employees and getting the workforce adapted to the changed workspace. The panel concurred that the future of workspace was going to be ‘phygital’ and enhancing employee relations, upskilling employees and achieving better connect with them would become imperative for organizations.

The International Panel Discussion was followed by 9 breakout panel discussions across various schools of KIIT DU. Some of the themes under discussion were ‘Revamping Work, Workforce and Workplaces’, ‘Human Resources: The Fosters of Knowledge Sharing and Harnessing the Power of Science’; ‘HR Redesign in the ‘Phygital’ era: A Strategic Focus in the Rural Workspace and ‘How Future-proof is the Reengineered Workspace?’ The panellists were eminent speakers from various national and international corporations.

A total of 46 interactive workshops by distinguished industry practitioners followed the panel discussions. The conclave provided students with an opportunity to interact with business leaders from the industry. It created a platform to connect industry professionals, academia and students.

The conclave was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Achyuta Samanta, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha & Hon’ble Founder KIIT and KISS; in presence of Mr. Scott Friedman, Author of “Celebrate! Lessons Learned from World’s Most Admired Organizations”; Mr. Manoj Kohli, Country Head, SoftBank India, SoftBank Group International; Dr. Hrushikesh Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, KIIT; Dr. Sasmita Samanta, Pro Vice Chancellor, KIIT; Dr. S K Mahapatra, Conclave Chairperson and Director, KIIT School of Management; Dr. Sanjay Muthal, CEO, Kontempore, along with  Co Convenors Dr. Kumar Mohanty, Director, Corporate Relations, KIIT and Dr. Saranjit Singh, Director, Industry Engagement and Placements, KIIT.

Dr. Sasmita Samanta spoke about the changes in aspiration of the younger generation who are about to enter the workforce and appealed to the thought leaders present to accordingly shape the future of organisations.

Dr. Hrushikesha Mohanty said in these difficult times, we have to keep our spirits high and look for alternate solutions to workplace changes.

Dr. S K Mahapatra, Conclave Chairperson and Director, KIIT School of Management set the context by saying that despite the world being faced with an unprecedented challenge from the pandemic, KIIT saw a great opportunity to innovate by taking the conclave to a global stage. He was happy to share that KIIT University has been one of the pioneering institutions to seamlessly adapt to the new environment of virtual workplace and virtual learning space!

Giving the inaugural address, Dr. Samanta said that this topic is very relevant in the current context. He felt that a lot of change has happened in the economy because of the pandemic. Rewiring the workplace will bring in positivity in the tough times. Citing examples of KIIT and KISS, he said that these organizations rapidly adapted to the situation and integrated digital workspace and blended learning thereby becoming one of the first educational institutions to respond and overcome the pandemic situation.

The first keynote address was delivered by Mr. Manoj Kohli. He said that in this pandemic situation, organizations have to take note of five key areas – changing customer preferences and inclination towards digital platforms, maintaining higher standards of operations, financial agility and fitness, focus on innovations and ensuring employee integrity and performance.

Mr. Scott Friedman in his keynote address spoke about the importance of being happy for achieving better performance in work and life. He said that we have to focus on ‘GPS’ – Gratitude, Play and Surprise. As per him, in the pandemic situation, organizations need to celebrate employees and create a happy environment. For better performance, both organizations and employees have to be tuned to think of ‘finish lines’ and not ‘deadlines’.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr.Sanjay Muthal, CEO, Kontempore. He lauded the efforts of Dr. Achyuta Samanta for his colossal effort for uplifting society through education. He thanked Dr. Sasmita Samanta, Pro VC, KIIT, Dr. Hrushikesha Mohanty, VC, KIIT and Conclave chairperson, Dr. Saroj Mahapatra, Director, KSOM for their welcome remarks and context setting. He profusely thanked the Keynote speakers – Mr. Scott Friedman and Mr. Manoj Kohli for their exceptional deliberations. Finally he thanked and applauded the organizers for putting up such a huge digital event with 30000 audiences and 200 global speakers.

The inaugural was followed by 16 panel discussions digitally happening across 9 different schools of KIIT.

Some of the themes under discussion were ‘The Altered Workplace-Opportunities and Challenges’, ‘Reinventing the Rural Workplace’ and ‘HR 4.0: Is the workplace ready for New Age Technology like Block chain?’ The panellists were eminent speakers from various national and international corporations.

A total of 100 workshops are also being organised on day 2 of the conclave. This digital conclave has been able to create a digital platform to connect industry, academia and student community.
