Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ayushi Raichoudhury – FIC, Alumni Relations extended her welcome and greetings to the Alumni present in the event. She highlighted the importance of building a stronger and more connected alumni network. Director, Prof Kumar Mohanty said it’s nostalgic to know few alumni in senior positions are ready to contribute to the school. In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of alumni engagement in strengthening the institution’s legacy and fostering a vibrant and connected alumni community.  Dean – MBA and Dean – BBA, also addressed the gathering and shared their thoughts on the significance of alumni engagement. They welcomed the alumni and appreciated their continued association with KSOM. Several alumni also shared their emotions and memories associated with the institute. Faculty members and staff of KIIT School of Management were also present at the reunion and interacted warmly with the alumni. Their participation added to the nostalgic and celebratory atmosphere, providing an opportunity for faculty and former students to reconnect and share memories of the alumni’s days at IBAT/KSOM.

The reunion was also strengthened by the gracious presence of our beloved Founder sir Prof. (Dr.) Achyuta Samanta, whose presence added special significance to the celebration. Prof. Raj Kumar from XLRI and Prof. Abhijeet Dutta also participated virtually.

KSOM also called upon alumni across batches to reconnect with their alma mater and actively contribute to strengthening the growing KSOM–KIIT alumni community.

A Special Convocation preceded the HR conclave, where KIIT DU proudly conferred the Doctor of Letter (Honoris Causa) to Sri Sanjeev Agarwal, CEO & Managing Director – Middle East & India, Protiviti, in recognition of his remarkable contributions and distinguished professional journey. Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT DU, conferred the degree on Sri Sanjeev Agarwal. Prof. Saranjit Singh spoke on the impact of AI on education and how KIIT is quickly adapting to it.

In his keynote address, Sri Sanjeev Agarwal emphasized that it is about Humans and AI and not Humans vs AI. He said that with organizations becoming increasingly technology-driven, HR is now at another turning point. The advent of Generative AI is not merely transforming technology but is fundamentally changing how organizations perceive people, skills, work, and resources. His view was that, despite technological advancement, the human element would remain central.

The session also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between KIIT DU and Protiviti, marking a significant step in industry- academia collaboration.

The conclave’s two parallel panel discussions delved deeper into the theme – “AI for All or AI for Few? The Reality of Skill Equalization.” The expert panellists of the first panel discussion were Mr. Prabhanjan Prasoon, Senior Director – Talent Acquisition, Birlasoft; Ms. Vaishnavi Shukla, Vice President HR, Tata Communications; and Dr. Krishna Kishore K, Head, L&D, Lucas TVS Group & Head HR, TVS Green. The panellists of the second panel discussion were Ms. Kiran Singh, Head HR, Mother Dairy Fruit and Vegetable Pvt. Ltd.; Mr. Prashant Rai, Chief People Officer, Spandana Sphoorty Pvt. Ltd.; Ms. Shruthi Mallya, Global People Business Partnering Director, Falkor; Sri Venkatesh P., CEO, Perpetuity Solutions Ltd.; Mr. Karan Bakshi, Director, India and Pacific Region, Cummins Inc.; and Mr. Swadesh Behera, EVP and Chief People Officer, Titan Company Ltd. Across both sessions, panelists debated whether AI is genuinely closing opportunity gaps or creating new ones, with conversations centering on digital accessibility, algorithmic bias, and the need to build inclusive learning ecosystems.

The second half featured interactive workshops with senior HR professionals, reinforcing KSOM’s commitment to industry-academia collaboration and preparing future-ready HR leaders for an AI-driven workplace. The workshops were on topics like AI in HR: From Hiring to High Performance; Impact of Gen Z and Digital Natives on Hybrid; AI for reducing workload and stress; and Employee Voice in AI Implementation.

The HR Conclave successfully connected theory with industry practice. It provided a dynamic platform for students, faculty, and professionals to connect.

A key highlight of the programme was the industrial visit to Aarti Steel, where students gained valuable insights into operational processes and industry practices. The programme emphasized experiential learning, teamwork, and global collaboration, enabling students to develop critical problem-solving and analytical skills.

The Trek was organized by Prof. Akhtar Badshah and Prof. Britt Provost from the University of Washington Bothell. KSOM students were mentored by Prof. Arun Biswal and Prof. Arnav Pati, who guided them throughout the project work.

The programme was coordinated by Prof. Saroj Kumar Routray, Chairperson, International Students Academic Committee, whose dedicated leadership ensured seamless execution and enriched learning outcomes for all participants. The overall logistics were efficiently managed by the International Relations Office, KIIT.

We sincerely appreciate the enthusiastic participation and valuable contributions of the visiting faculty and students from UWB. They actively engaged in all academic and cultural interactions and expressed their appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by KSOM and KIIT.

The event was formally inaugurated by Hon’ble Founder, Dr. Achyuta Samanta. The inaugural function was graced by the presence of several eminent dignitaries, including Padma Shri Aditya Gadanayak, National Award Winner; Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor; Prof. K. D. Raju, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar; Prof. Kumar Mohanty, Director, KSOM; Prof. Arvind Tripathy, Dean, PG Programme, KSOM and Prof. Priti Ranjan Sahoo, Dean, UG Programme, KSOM; along with invited corporate guests, industry leaders, parents, alumni, and other distinguished visitors.

A major highlight of the event was the participation of more than 900 students, with 114 student groups presenting their innovative ideas through posters and models. The exhibition reflected the students’ creativity, conceptual understanding, and application of classroom learning in an engaging and practical format. It became a vibrant platform for showcasing curricular learning integrated with co-curricular and extracurricular dimensions.

Another significant feature of the inaugural session was the release of the ISBN book with ISBN: 978-93-343-5478-2, titled New Product Development: 40 Innovative Ideas from KSOM, edited by Dr. Priti Ranjan Sahoo and Dr. Kharabela Rout. The book release added academic value and prestige to the event and highlighted the institution’s commitment to promoting student ideas and innovation.

In addition to university functionaries, faculty members, parents, alumni, and students, invited students and faculty from Kalinga English Medium School, Kalarabanka; KIIT International School; ODM Public School; and several other schools also visited the exhibition and interacted with the participating students. Their presence enhanced the programme’s outreach and visibility.

The event atmosphere was further enriched by food stalls, fun-and-game stalls, and student-led performances, including a live band presentation, which brought warmth, energy, and festivity to the occasion. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, university dignitaries, alumni, parents, invited guests, and school students, making it a truly memorable and impactful occasion. The event was widely appreciated by all attendees and stands as a proud achievement for the UG Programme of KIIT School of Management.

Smt. Jayashree in her opening remarks, highlighted that the 2026 budget has been presented at a crucial time when India is balancing domestic growth with global economic uncertainties while striving toward long-term goals such as Viksit Bharat 2047 and regional milestones like Odisha Vision 2036.

During the discussion, CA Arun Kumar Sabat shared his experience of analysing budgets over several decades and reflected on how taxation policies have evolved in India. He noted that major reforms in direct taxation have already been introduced in recent years, particularly the expansion of the tax-free income threshold under the new tax regime. He also provided historical context by referring to the 1969 tax structure, where the highest tax bracket reached nearly 97.5%, which often encouraged tax evasion and the creation of black money. According to him, the current budget introduces relatively few but meaningful changes, including modifications in provisions related to TDS, TCS, and return filing procedures. He also pointed out that global geopolitical developments, currency fluctuations, and rising fuel prices continue to contribute to inflationary pressures, which he described as “taxation without legislation.”

CA Bidhubhushan Nayak focused on the constitutional and structural aspects of the Union Budget. He explained that the word “budget” itself is not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution of India; rather, Article 112 refers to it as the “Annual Financial Statement.” He also discussed the importance of the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) Act, 2003, which ensures fiscal discipline in government financial planning. Highlighting the scale of the Union Budget 2026, he stated that its size is approximately ₹53.5 lakh crore, with around ₹12.2 lakh crore allocated to capital expenditure. This substantial allocation toward infrastructure and asset creation nearly 22–23% of the total budget reflects the government’s focus on growth, investment, and long-term economic development. He further emphasised that sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and services have been prioritised to generate employment and strengthen the economy.

Dr. Pritish Kumar Sahu described the budget as a roadmap that outlines the country’s long-term policy direction rather than simply a statement of revenues and expenditures. He explained that governments may not always have sufficient resources to directly support every sector; therefore, businesses and citizens must leverage the opportunities created by policy initiatives and infrastructure development. Addressing India’s fiscal position, he noted that borrowing is not necessarily negative if it is directed toward productive investments such as infrastructure, education, and capital formation. With India’s loan-to-GDP ratio estimated at around 50–55%, he emphasised that sustained economic growth and strategic investments can strengthen the country’s long-term economic capacity.

The panel discussion also highlighted the importance of infrastructure expansion, strengthening manufacturing and MSMEs, improving logistics and freight connectivity, and leveraging India’s demographic dividend through skill development. The speakers emphasised that strategic investments in sectors such as technology, semiconductors, and services will play a significant role in driving India’s economic progress. The session concluded with encouraging remarks from the panellists, who advised the students to remain aware of economic developments and align their skills with the evolving needs of the economy.  Prof. Shikta Singh proposed the Vote of Thanks.

The conference commenced with opening remarks by the Convener, Prof. Poornima Mohapatra, who welcomed the distinguished guests and participants. She highlighted how rapid technological advancements are transforming management practices and emphasized the need to revisit classical theories to address contemporary organizational challenges.  In his welcome address, Prof. (Dr.) Kumar Mohanty, Director-KIIT School of Management, emphasized that organizations must move beyond traditional notions of efficiency and focus on deployability, resilience, and adaptability to remain competitive in such uncertain conditions. The inaugural session also featured insightful perspectives from Mr. Joydeep Roy, Managing Director–HR, PwC India, who highlighted the importance of effective organizational design and leadership in fostering employee engagement and creating productive workplaces.  Prof. (Dr.) Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University, emphasized the continued relevance of classical management principles such as division of labour, efficiency, and standardization of work in modern organizations.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Neharika Vohra, Professor at the IIM Ahmedabad and Founding Vice Chancellor of Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University. She discussed the increasing complexity of the BUNI world (Brittle, Uncertain, Non-linear, and Incomprehensible), which characterizes today’s business environment.  In her address, she highlighted major paradigm shifts shaping contemporary organizations, including exponential technological change, the rise of Generative AI, evolving workplace expectations such as remote work and quiet quitting, and the transformation of leadership roles. She emphasized the importance of recognizing cognitive limitations, redesigning work structures, and building organizational cultures that support innovation, adaptability, and continuous learning.

A major highlight of the conference was the panel discussion titled “The Relevance of Management Classics in an AI-Native World: What Should MBA Curricula Keep, Drop, and Reinvent?” The panel brought together distinguished academic leaders including Dr. Saji K. Mathew (Head, Department of Management Studies, IIT Madras), Dr. Supriti Mishra (Dean–Academics, IMI Bhubaneswar), Dr. Ranjeet Nambudiri (Dean, IIM Indore), Dr. Sanjay Patro (Dean, XLRI), Dr. Jack S. Kahn (President, Shoreline College, Washington, USA), and Dr. Kajri Misra (Dean, School of Human Settlements, XIM University). The panelists discussed how management education must evolve in response to the rapid rise of artificial intelligence and technological disruption. While AI is capable of efficiently performing analytical tasks such as financial modelling, benchmarking, and data analysis, the panelists emphasized that MBA programs must continue to focus on foundational management concepts along with human-centric capabilities such as critical thinking, ethical judgment, decision-making, and adaptive leadership. The discussion concluded that classical management theories remain highly relevant, but management curricula must be redesigned to integrate technological awareness, interdisciplinary learning, and innovative thinking, enabling future managers to navigate the complexities of an AI-driven business environment. Following the inaugural session and panel discussion, the conference moved into the technical paper presentation sessions, where scholars from various institutions presented their research across six parallel tracks. The conference will continue with additional research paper presentations tomorrow morning, followed by the valedictory session, where outstanding contributions will be recognized, and best paper awards will be announced.

ICMR 2026 thus provides an important platform for scholarly dialogue, knowledge exchange, and reflection on the evolving relevance of management thought in a rapidly transforming global landscape.
