The event was formally inaugurated by Hon’ble Founder, Dr. Achyuta Samanta. A major highlight of the event was the participation of more than 900 students, with 114 student groups presenting their innovative ideas through posters and models. The exhibition reflected the students’ creativity, conceptual understanding, and application of classroom learning in an engaging and practical format. It became a vibrant platform for showcasing curricular learning integrated with co-curricular and extracurricular dimensions.

Another significant feature of the inaugural session was the release of the ISBN book with ISBN: 978-93-343-5478-2, titled New Product Development: 40 Innovative Ideas from KSOM, edited by Dr. Priti Ranjan Sahoo and Dr. Kharabela Rout. The book release added academic value and prestige to the event and highlighted the institution’s commitment to promoting student ideas and innovation.

In addition to university functionaries, faculty members, parents, alumni, and students, invited students and faculty from Kalinga English Medium School, Kalarabanka; KIIT International School; ODM Public School; and several other schools also visited the exhibition and interacted with the participating students. Their presence enhanced the programme’s outreach and visibility.

The event atmosphere was further enriched by food stalls, fun-and-game stalls, and student-led performances, including a live band presentation, which brought warmth, energy, and festivity to the occasion. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, university dignitaries, alumni, parents, invited guests, and school students, making it a truly memorable and impactful occasion. The event was widely appreciated by all attendees and stands as a proud achievement for the UG Programme of KIIT School of Management.

Smt. Jayashree in her opening remarks, highlighted that the 2026 budget has been presented at a crucial time when India is balancing domestic growth with global economic uncertainties while striving toward long-term goals such as Viksit Bharat 2047 and regional milestones like Odisha Vision 2036.

During the discussion, CA Arun Kumar Sabat shared his experience of analysing budgets over several decades and reflected on how taxation policies have evolved in India. He noted that major reforms in direct taxation have already been introduced in recent years, particularly the expansion of the tax-free income threshold under the new tax regime. He also provided historical context by referring to the 1969 tax structure, where the highest tax bracket reached nearly 97.5%, which often encouraged tax evasion and the creation of black money. According to him, the current budget introduces relatively few but meaningful changes, including modifications in provisions related to TDS, TCS, and return filing procedures. He also pointed out that global geopolitical developments, currency fluctuations, and rising fuel prices continue to contribute to inflationary pressures, which he described as “taxation without legislation.”

CA Bidhubhushan Nayak focused on the constitutional and structural aspects of the Union Budget. He explained that the word “budget” itself is not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution of India; rather, Article 112 refers to it as the “Annual Financial Statement.” He also discussed the importance of the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) Act, 2003, which ensures fiscal discipline in government financial planning. Highlighting the scale of the Union Budget 2026, he stated that its size is approximately ₹53.5 lakh crore, with around ₹12.2 lakh crore allocated to capital expenditure. This substantial allocation toward infrastructure and asset creation nearly 22–23% of the total budget reflects the government’s focus on growth, investment, and long-term economic development. He further emphasised that sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and services have been prioritised to generate employment and strengthen the economy.

Dr. Pritish Kumar Sahu described the budget as a roadmap that outlines the country’s long-term policy direction rather than simply a statement of revenues and expenditures. He explained that governments may not always have sufficient resources to directly support every sector; therefore, businesses and citizens must leverage the opportunities created by policy initiatives and infrastructure development. Addressing India’s fiscal position, he noted that borrowing is not necessarily negative if it is directed toward productive investments such as infrastructure, education, and capital formation. With India’s loan-to-GDP ratio estimated at around 50–55%, he emphasised that sustained economic growth and strategic investments can strengthen the country’s long-term economic capacity.

The panel discussion also highlighted the importance of infrastructure expansion, strengthening manufacturing and MSMEs, improving logistics and freight connectivity, and leveraging India’s demographic dividend through skill development. The speakers emphasised that strategic investments in sectors such as technology, semiconductors, and services will play a significant role in driving India’s economic progress. The session concluded with encouraging remarks from the panellists, who advised the students to remain aware of economic developments and align their skills with the evolving needs of the economy.  Prof. Shikta Singh proposed the Vote of Thanks.

The conference commenced with opening remarks by the Convener, Prof. Poornima Mohapatra, who welcomed the distinguished guests and participants. She highlighted how rapid technological advancements are transforming management practices and emphasized the need to revisit classical theories to address contemporary organizational challenges.  In his welcome address, Prof. (Dr.) Kumar Mohanty, Director-KIIT School of Management, emphasized that organizations must move beyond traditional notions of efficiency and focus on deployability, resilience, and adaptability to remain competitive in such uncertain conditions. The inaugural session also featured insightful perspectives from Mr. Joydeep Roy, Managing Director–HR, PwC India, who highlighted the importance of effective organizational design and leadership in fostering employee engagement and creating productive workplaces.  Prof. (Dr.) Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University, emphasized the continued relevance of classical management principles such as division of labour, efficiency, and standardization of work in modern organizations.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Neharika Vohra, Professor at the IIM Ahmedabad and Founding Vice Chancellor of Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University. She discussed the increasing complexity of the BUNI world (Brittle, Uncertain, Non-linear, and Incomprehensible), which characterizes today’s business environment.  In her address, she highlighted major paradigm shifts shaping contemporary organizations, including exponential technological change, the rise of Generative AI, evolving workplace expectations such as remote work and quiet quitting, and the transformation of leadership roles. She emphasized the importance of recognizing cognitive limitations, redesigning work structures, and building organizational cultures that support innovation, adaptability, and continuous learning.

A major highlight of the conference was the panel discussion titled “The Relevance of Management Classics in an AI-Native World: What Should MBA Curricula Keep, Drop, and Reinvent?” The panel brought together distinguished academic leaders including Dr. Saji K. Mathew (Head, Department of Management Studies, IIT Madras), Dr. Supriti Mishra (Dean–Academics, IMI Bhubaneswar), Dr. Ranjeet Nambudiri (Dean, IIM Indore), Dr. Sanjay Patro (Dean, XLRI), Dr. Jack S. Kahn (President, Shoreline College, Washington, USA), and Dr. Kajri Misra (Dean, School of Human Settlements, XIM University). The panelists discussed how management education must evolve in response to the rapid rise of artificial intelligence and technological disruption. While AI is capable of efficiently performing analytical tasks such as financial modelling, benchmarking, and data analysis, the panelists emphasized that MBA programs must continue to focus on foundational management concepts along with human-centric capabilities such as critical thinking, ethical judgment, decision-making, and adaptive leadership. The discussion concluded that classical management theories remain highly relevant, but management curricula must be redesigned to integrate technological awareness, interdisciplinary learning, and innovative thinking, enabling future managers to navigate the complexities of an AI-driven business environment. Following the inaugural session and panel discussion, the conference moved into the technical paper presentation sessions, where scholars from various institutions presented their research across six parallel tracks. The conference will continue with additional research paper presentations tomorrow morning, followed by the valedictory session, where outstanding contributions will be recognized, and best paper awards will be announced.

ICMR 2026 thus provides an important platform for scholarly dialogue, knowledge exchange, and reflection on the evolving relevance of management thought in a rapidly transforming global landscape.

Insightful Visit to Nilima Associates Pvt. Ltd.
The visit commenced at Nilima Associates Pvt. Ltd., where the students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Dharmanshu Pandey, Managing Director of the company and an alumnus of KSOM (MBA 2020–22). An inspiring example of entrepreneurial success, Mr. Pandey shared his journey from iron ore trading to establishing Odisha’s first advanced Pre-Engineered Buildings and Heavy Structure Steel manufacturing plant.
During the plant tour, students were introduced to the complete production workflow, from procurement of raw materials to the manufacturing of finished steel components. They observed advanced cutting, rolling, shaping, and finishing processes carried out through a blend of automation and semi-automation, highlighting how modern technology enhances efficiency, precision, and cost optimization.

Exposure to Large-Scale Operations at Maithan Ispat Limited
The group then proceeded to Maithan Ispat Limited, an integrated steel manufacturing facility. Students gained firsthand exposure to large-scale steel production, beginning with the preparation of raw materials and moving through furnace operations, refining processes, and final casting of steel products.
A key highlight of the visit was the plant’s emphasis on sustainable practices. The in-house power generation system, utilizing water used in cooling processes to generate electricity, demonstrated efficient resource utilization and environmentally responsible industrial operations.

Interactive Workshop and Learning Outcomes
Following the plant visits, Mr. Dharmanshu Pandey and his team conducted an interactive workshop and discussion session. The session focused on industry expectations, technological advancements, operational challenges, and career pathways in manufacturing and management. The interaction proved highly motivating, helping students bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry realities.
A Step Towards Industry-Ready Professionals
The industrial visit concluded as a memorable and impactful learning experience for the students. By observing real-time industrial workflows, sustainable practices, and entrepreneurial leadership, participants gained deeper insights into the steel industry and modern manufacturing ecosystems.
