Of the 22 competitions, some of the most attractive Management events were – The B – Quiz, Smart Manager and the B – Plan. The B – Quiz was organized by renowned Quiz Master Mr. Chandrakanth Nair and was attended by teams from institutes as well as corporate.

The Smart Manager and B – Plan competitions gave the students an opportunity to display their management and entrepreneurial skills.

The Cultural event highlights included – Rock Band competition, Dance and Street play.  The events were judged by celebrities like Mr. Samaresh Routray, Ollywood star; Mr. Bhargav, Reputed Photographer and others.

The finale of Kolosseum 2016 was Musical Star Night by Meet Brothers and Ms. Khushboo Grewal presented by Coke Studio.

Leading Bollywood Music Directors, Meet Brothers – Mr. Manmeet Singh & Mr. Harmeet Singh along with Ms. Khushboo enthralled the huge audience with enchanting numbers.

Kolosseum 2016 was a huge success with 100 plus participating graduate and post-graduate schools and 5000 participants. It was a feather in the cap of KSOM Student Fest team and was widely appreciated.

The fest started with the Treasure Hunt which was followed by a series of engrossing events such as a marketing game called Spunky Barter, a street play competition called Power Play, a sensational dance competition, Ramp Walk, and the high decibel event called the War of Bands. There were parallel events such as a painting competition called Shades, an entrepreneurship competition called Wolf of E-Street, a business plan competition, and the very interesting ad-mad competition named Ads Mania. There was a plethora of simulation games competition which also gave a zing to the fest.  There were events encompassing all functional areas of management which let the participants test their managerial skills and compete with one another.  Workshops were conducted in the areas of entrepreneurship and soft skills to better hone the skills of the future managers.

The biggest attraction of the event was the Star Night and for this year it was none other than Benny Dayal. The crowd sang chorus as he went on to sing his chartbuster song “Badtameez Dil”. Everyone had his or her feet tapping and the energy which the crowd exuberated was fantastic.

The Kolosseum has been getting bigger every year with more students from premier business schools of the country participating and showcasing their talent.

Understanding that the success of any event largely rides on the able and often overworked shoulders of its organizers, The Media Relations Club at KIIT School of Management spoke to the core student organization team to find out its plans for the annual fest and came away impressed with the extent of planning, a result no doubt of the organizing team’s dedication. Giving a brief overview, a team member said, “The events have been divided into two parts: ‘Formals’ and ‘Informals’. The formal events include a B-Quiz and other business related events where we are introducing different types of workshops and games. The idea is to use HR, Marketing and Finance for simulation games and give the participants a lot to think about. Besides the formals events, there will be the traditionally popular competition AdMad, which tests competitors’ advertising skills. Apart from that, we have Nukkad Nataks, fashion shows, battle of bands where we have 7-8 bands competing, and, of course, the Star Night, which is a huge attraction. The event has gotten bigger year after year and this year we want to take things to another level.”

According to the team, the planning and hard work to put the event together begins three months earlier, which is the time when they have to start looking for sponsors. “Funding is the responsibility of the team that has to look for sponsors. We also have teams for college participation, and rules, regulations and promotions. In the last month prior to the event though, the lines blur and we are all focusing on the sponsors to close out the deals. And, one week before the event is when things go crazy and we have meetings every day; but, it’s exciting to be a part of it all,” they add.

The team reminds us that their work isn’t done for almost a month after the event because they have to settle the bills, return items to the sponsors, as well as take care of all the supplies and logistics material. But, it’s all worth it to keep up the image of Kolosseum, one of the biggest events in Eastern India. “That really is one of the main attractions for students from all over the country who come here. We try to make sure everyone has a great time and enjoys every moment of the event. The beautiful campus adds to the ambience of the event, as well,” says an organizer.

The end of the event is marked with celebrations for the team and there is a party to look forward to. But the organizers also understand that being a part of an event of this magnitude helps their personal growth as well. “Organizing the event is like going for B2B sales, talking to a lot of people and knowing what the market is all about. It is the biggest platform we get to develop ourselves and it is part of the grooming process at the institute. From time management to people management, we are learning a lot here,” a view shared by every core team member.

Of course, things often go wrong at the last minute, but the team believes it’s a part of the learning process as it teaches them crisis management. The actual days of the event are like putting fuel and fire together where things can get out of hand. But they manage to keep things under control and ensure that everyone has a good time. “This is what memories are made of. All our effort is worth it when we are told that it was a memorable event. This year, too, we will put on a great show and have a lot in store for participants from all over the country,” they conclude.

The institute had left no stone unturned to ensure Kolosseum ‘14 to be a huge success. KSOM had chosen 46 members for the organizing committee. According to Kolosseum, faculty in charge, Prof. Biswajeet Patnaik, “The committee worked day and night for a few months in different areas including sponsorship, college participation and designing to ensure that the event was a smooth sailing. The fest gives students an opportunity to exhibit their talent to the outside world while having a great time too.”

After all, Kolosseum ‘14 was not only a celebration of culture and heritage but a platform for future management professionals to showcase their skills and acumen. Students from over 50 colleges in the country, including names like NIT Rourkela, NIT Jamshedpur, XIMB, Sri Sri University, NIRMA University, Gujarat, IIT Bhubaneshwar, BIMTECH, IIT BBSR, NIFT BBSR, SIBM, Pune vied for the top honours in various competitions. The fest also had industry presence from ones like Infosys, TCS, to name from a long list.

Some of the much talked about games and competitions at the event turned out to be La Vender; the sales game, Invertis; the stock game, Open Fyes; the Supply Chain game and Plan Maestro; the strategy game that tested participants to the fullest on different aspects of management. La Vista, the debating competition, was expectedly hotly contested while the B Quiz was hosted by renowned quizmaster Barry O’Brien. An event like Pixel Dust brought out participants’ creative side as they showcased their photography skills.

But of course, a college fest is not complete without those fun moments that set the mood for the gathering. With its carnival theme Kolosseum ‘14 had them in plenty even in the competition section, which had the War of Bands; a hugely popular event. The Masked Lingos was the street play competition, which displayed talents in abundance while the fashionistas put their best foot forward on the ramp for Walkaholic Carny. But the star attraction of the event was singer KK who had the audience swaying to his tunes.

KSOM won the first prize for the Rampwalk that got the team prize money of 12,000 INR. Resham Pattnaik from KSOM lifted the Treasure Hunt trophy while Arnab Chakrabarty, KSOM lifted the first prize for the Best HR Manager (HR Game). The team from XIMB, Bhubaneswar won the trophy for the best Strategist. The Corporate quiz had winners from TCS where Bhaskar Dutta and Abhishek Das bagged the first prize followed by the team from NIT, Rourkela. The first prize of The Debate went to Priyanka Gupta and Anmol Narang from Sri Sri University. Sameer Subudhi and Saurav Rath from KSOM won the first prize for the Photography event. Abhimanyu Mukherjee of KIIT School of Biotechnology won the first prize for Counter Strike along with Satyam Naik who was the winner of the NFS game.

When asked to one of the student organizers- Satwik, about his overall comments on the fest, he said- “After two and a half months of rigorous brainstorming, planning, scheduling and working, I want to thank all those who helped make this event a success. Eventually, Kolosseum 2014 turned out to be one of the most disciplined, well managed fests.”

The revelries continued throughout the two day event as the participants let their hair down and made merry. The camaraderie the event built amongst future professionals of the country meant purpose served for Kolosseum ‘14, which went on to make a lasting impression.

The first day at the event began with Business quiz, LAN gaming-NFS, Ad Mad show competitions. The second day witnessed various other exciting games & competitions like B- Plan, Debate, E- Haat, Video making, Counter Strike, Group dance etc

The prize winners for the various competitions were awarded by Prof. Ashok K. Sar, Dean, KSOM & Cmdr. Dilip Mohapatra, Chief Mentor & Strategic Advisor, KSOM.

The event concluded with a musical node by Ram Sampath and Sona Mohapatra, the two leading names in Bollywood at the Star Night along with their troupe, live in front of a crowd of more than 2000 people.

Kolosseum believes in providing students the platform to showcase their talent. And it promises to be even bigger, better in the forthcoming years.
