Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University, highlighted that the theme of hybrid workplaces and the hybrid future can be captured in three words: agile, adaptive, and integrated. Drawing parallels between industry and academia, he noted that education has also been disrupted by market changes, making agility and adaptability essential for institutions to thrive. He spoke about the growing influence of artificial intelligence and the need to adapt to its impact on education and work. Emphasizing that we are born into a disruptive world, he noted that survival depends on adaptability and the ability to unlearn and relearn. He encouraged everyone to make the most of today’s discussions and opportunities for growth.

Mr. Sarthak Behuria, Chairman & Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Reliance BP Mobility Ltd., delivered the Keynote Address. He noted that the traditional 9 to 5 is giving way to a new era of work defined by agility, adaptability, and empathy. Drawing from his vast experience, he shared a few real-life instances that illustrated these values in action. His speech was deeply humane and personal, reflecting the importance of trust and connection in today’s workplace. He explained that while hybrid work offers freedom, it also brings challenges like ambiguity and disconnection, making human connection more important than ever. According to him, true leadership today is about listening, caring, and fostering belonging, whether in person or online. He emphasized that while technology enables connection, culture is built through shared experiences and genuine relationships.

Prof. Arvind Tripathy, Dean, MBA, KSOM, proposed the Vote of Thanks. He expressed gratitude to all who were present in the session and urged everyone to learn, relearn, and keep innovating.

Speakers agreed that hybrid models must be tailored to organizational needs, with physical presence remaining essential for collaboration and mentorship, and concluded that hybrid work will continue to grow with strategies that create value for both employees and businesses.

Post-lunch, a series of parallel Synergistics sessions were held to provide focused interaction between students and industry professionals. The context of the Konclave was set by Prof. Joydeep Biswas, Conclave Convenor. Prof. Biswas highlighted that the business environment is going through a period of profound changes. He said that the event is aimed to inspire businesses to adopt responsible and forward-thinking marketing practices.

Prof. Suva Kanta Mohanty, Director, KSOM gave the welcome address, and introduced the corporate dignitaries. Prof. Mohanty emphasized that increasing uncertainities, technological advancement, globalization and changing socio-economic demography have shaped consumer preferences and buying behaviour significantly. To maintain an essence of relevance and to stay abreast with consumer, marketers have used various tools like influencer marketing, AI and user generated content. Still marketers have to do a lot more as understanding human mind is not a simple task.

Prof. Saranjit Singh, VC, KIIT DU in his address talked about the various initiatives that KIIT is undertaking to strengthen industry academia connect in order for education to stay relevant. He said that industrial 4.0 has resulted in a sea change in the educational curriculum development. He also stressed that students should clearly understand the concept of disruptive marketing and how IT platforms, AI and Generative AI are impacting the functioning of business verticals significantly.

Mr Partha Sinha, President and Chief Brand Officer, Bennett, Colemon & Co Ltd., gave the keynote address. Mr. Sinha is one of the most renowned Advertising Strategist in the media world. He has worked with companies like Citibank N.A, Ogilvy & Mather, Zee, Publicis, BBH, & McCann World Group. Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd is the company that publishes The Times of India, The Economic Times, and many other marquee newspapers.

He provided a keen insight into how brand building in the age of disruption is synonymous to brand building in the era of intelligence. He further delved into the concept by relating intelligence to hyper-personalization, enhanced customer experience, data driven decision making and automation & efficiency. He felt that intelligence is now democratized with Generative AI being used for brand naming, brand personality, website copy, on-page SEO, customer persona and marketing strategies. He strongly opined that the concept of empathy which is usally related to society must be an integral part of business strategy and decisions. He said that success in volatile environments depends on the ability to apply data compassionately in response to new opportunities. He believes that successful brands of the future will be those who care about people, not branding.

Prof. Sumita Mishra, Dean, KSOM in her welcome address highlighted the importance of annual conclaves and how it has strengthened KSOM’s corporate connect over the years. She stressed that academic industry collaboration is critical for any good B School to move forward.

Vice Chancellor, KIIT DU, in her address, elaborated on the importance of human rights and human dignity in this fast-paced, competitive world. She cited India as a remarkable manifestation of both. She opined that as a nation of inclusion and diversity, India creates socially conscious students, where human values are an integral part in all business strategies.

The inaugural session was followed by two panel discussions. The first panel discussion was on the topic – Demographic Dynamics for Increased Sustainability. The panel highlighted the need for ambition, respect, and adaptability for achieving desired goals. They emphasized the importance of population dynamics and the elimination of biases in decision-making. The panel also advocated for skill-focused growth and data-driven insights to ensure long-term sustainability.

The second panel discussion was on the topic – Occupational Opportunities for a Sustainable Future. Ms. Richa Verma Agrawal, Head-HR Shared Services, Compliance & Process Excellence, Flipkart was the Moderator. Other esteemed panelists were Mr. Amit Kataria, CHRO, Minfy Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Mr. K A Unni Nayar, Jt. Director Manufacturing, J K Tyres, Mr. Sumit Neogi, HR Director – India, Middle East & Africa, The Lubrizol Corporation. The panel discussed about how people are at the heart of everything and that the human aspect takes precedence in all matters of life and work. Work-life balance plays an immense role in shaping and sustaining human happiness. The panel deliberated that climate change concerns although are real, organisations are taking time to change and adapt. The concept of sustainability must be embedded in the organisational culture.

The second half of the conclave consisted of eight simultaneous workshops. Designated as ‘Synergistics’ these interactive sessions were based on topics related to Equity based solutions at the workplace, HR practices in the context of Big Bang disruptions, HR – bridging gender gaps, Leadership practices to promote Inclusion and Embedding DEI culture in organizations among others.

Dr. Mahapatra threw light on the gap between the skills existing, and those needed in the professional world, and the importance of up-skilling in a constantly changing workplace

Dr. Saranjit Singh, Pro Vice Chancellor, KIIT DU, addressed the gathering and gave an insightful speech on the theme. He said every change and challenge could be changed into an opportunity, only if one knows how to reskill appropriately.

The keynote address was given by Mr. Rakesh Barik, Managing Director and Leader, Consulting Services, Deloitte India. His speech and demeanour exuded a lot of vibrancy and energy. He emphasized why change is important and how we have to adapt by being agile and taking on future challenges. He spoke about the digital generation and thus how companies need their human capital to be well equipped to tackle the revolution.

 The inaugural session was followed by two panel discussions. The first panel discussion was on the topic – Reinventing HR Processes for Accelerating Change in the Post-covid Era, The panel discussed the psychological factors, specifically empathy and compassion, to be understood to create an effective team so as to combat these challenges. The organization should learn to trust and empathize with its employees. The panel concurred that it is imperative that the organization focus on the 3 Ps: Purpose, People, and Performance. It also stressed the importance of providing for employee necessities in times of uncertainty which ultimately benefits the organization in the long run.

The second panel discussion was on the topic – The Rise of Augmented Intelligence and Hybrid Workplace. The panel discussed about the truth of human dependence on robots and AI-augmented machines after the outbreak of the pandemic, and how man and machine are working hand in hand, to meet customer demands for faster delivery of services. The panelists talked about how talent is managed, acquired, engaged, connected and retained in a hybrid workplace. The discussion also talked about the cons of such practices. Though such concepts give employees a choice of place of work, it is quite challenging for women and recent joiners to acquire skills. On-the-job learning is difficult and working in a team effectively, gets hampered. The panel concurred that AI & HR is being used in various computerized systems which are used for talent acquisition and talent development.

The second half of the conclave consisted of ten interactive workshops on topics related to Future of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Harnessing Emotions in the Post Pandemic Workplace, Designing the Hybrid Workplace – Challenges in Time & Space Management and Hiring in the post pandemic era – opportunities and challenges among other relevant topics.

Mr. K. A. Narayan, President HR, Raymond was the first keynote speaker. He opined that virtual will never be able to replace physical and in a digital world, human relations would be the most critical cog in business.

The second keynote speech was delivered by Mr. Milind K. Oza, Executive Chairman, Wollongong Coal Limited, New South Wales, Australia. He explained about the changes that his company faced with the outbreak of pandemic. He cited a few good aspects of the hybrid mode like effective communication and better efficacy of the workforce.

Prof. (Dr.) Achyuta Samanta, Hon’ble Founder, KIIT & KISS in his inaugural address welcomed all the esteemed dignitaries and expressed his happiness to be connecting the students and corporate dignitaries. He also spoke about how KIIT in this ‘phygital’ mode has managed its 10000+ staff in an admirable way, thereby getting the best Workplace of the Year Award by Times Higher Education, 2020. The panellists were Ms. Taiwo ‘Dayo-Abatan, Group Head, Human Capital and Corporate Services – Primera Africa Finance Group, Lagos; Ms. Surani Amerasinghe, Head of Human Resources – Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC, Sri Lanka; Mr. Eugene Lam, Sr. Vice President, HR – ST Engineering, Singapore and Mr. Michael Miliopoulos, Human Resources Director – ANTISEL, Greece. The panel spoke about various proactive things HR did during the pandemic like forming Employee Assistance Teams, taking care of employee families, giving emotional support to employees and getting the workforce adapted to the changed workspace. The panel concurred that the future of workspace was going to be ‘phygital’ and enhancing employee relations, upskilling employees and achieving better connect with them would become imperative for organizations.

The International Panel Discussion was followed by 9 breakout panel discussions across various schools of KIIT DU. Some of the themes under discussion were ‘Revamping Work, Workforce and Workplaces’, ‘Human Resources: The Fosters of Knowledge Sharing and Harnessing the Power of Science’; ‘HR Redesign in the ‘Phygital’ era: A Strategic Focus in the Rural Workspace and ‘How Future-proof is the Reengineered Workspace?’ The panellists were eminent speakers from various national and international corporations.

A total of 46 interactive workshops by distinguished industry practitioners followed the panel discussions. The conclave provided students with an opportunity to interact with business leaders from the industry. It created a platform to connect industry professionals, academia and students.

Giving the inaugural address, Dr. Samanta said that this topic is very relevant in the current context. He felt that a lot of change has happened in the economy because of the pandemic. Rewiring the workplace will bring in positivity in the tough times. Citing examples of KIIT and KISS, he said that these organizations rapidly adapted to the situation and integrated digital workspace and blended learning thereby becoming one of the first educational institutions to respond and overcome the pandemic situation.

The first keynote address was delivered by Mr. Manoj Kohli. He said that in this pandemic situation, organizations have to take note of five key areas – changing customer preferences and inclination towards digital platforms, maintaining higher standards of operations, financial agility and fitness, focus on innovations and ensuring employee integrity and performance.

Mr. Scott Friedman in his keynote address spoke about the importance of being happy for achieving better performance in work and life. He said that we have to focus on ‘GPS’ – Gratitude, Play and Surprise. As per him, in the pandemic situation, organizations need to celebrate employees and create a happy environment. For better performance, both organizations and employees have to be tuned to think of ‘finish lines’ and not ‘deadlines’.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr.Sanjay Muthal, CEO, Kontempore. He lauded the efforts of Dr. Achyuta Samanta for his colossal effort for uplifting society through education. He thanked Dr. Sasmita Samanta, Pro VC, KIIT, Dr. Hrushikesha Mohanty, VC, KIIT and Conclave chairperson, Dr. Saroj Mahapatra, Director, KSOM for their welcome remarks and context setting. He profusely thanked the Keynote speakers – Mr. Scott Friedman and Mr. Manoj Kohli for their exceptional deliberations. Finally he thanked and applauded the organizers for putting up such a huge digital event with 30000 audiences and 200 global speakers.

The inaugural was followed by 16 panel discussions digitally happening across 9 different schools of KIIT.

Some of the themes under discussion were ‘The Altered Workplace-Opportunities and Challenges’, ‘Reinventing the Rural Workplace’ and ‘HR 4.0: Is the workplace ready for New Age Technology like Block chain?’ The panellists were eminent speakers from various national and international corporations.

A total of 100 workshops are also being organised on day 2 of the conclave. This digital conclave has been able to create a digital platform to connect industry, academia and student community.

Prof. Anil Bajpai welcomed all the esteemed guests to the 10th edition of HR Conclave. Dr. Sanjay Muthal set the context of the conclave. He spoke about the engagement quotient of employer and employee, increase in global competition and quality competitiveness of people.  Professor Hrusikesha Mohanty spoke about the importance of understanding change and adapting to it for organizations today.

Hon’ble Founder, Prof. (Dr.) Achyuta Samanta stated that KIIT & KISS can be considered as shining examples of organisations which have achieved excellence in managing human resources. This years’ conclave witnessed two Panel Discussions followed by Synergistics – innovating group coaching sessions.

The first panel discussion was on the topic – “Critical Competencies for the Future: Is Change the only Constant?” The panel comprised of Mr. Anil Bhasin, President – Havells India Ltd.; Ms. Lopamudra Banerjee, Head – Human Resource, Carrier Midea India Private Limited & Deputy Director SE Asia – Midea; Mr. Nadeem Kazim, CHRO – TIL “Tractors India limited” and Mr. Shailen Merchant, Vice President & Head HR – Cholamandalam MS General Insurance Co. Ltd and Mr. Anirudddha Khekale, Group Director, HR, Emerson Automation Solutions. Prof. Anil Bajpai moderated the discussion. The panel felt that in today’s competitive scenario agility, adaptability and empathy are critical for future managers. Gaining cross functional exposure is essential. People connect will become a critical competency in the future.

The second panel discussion was on the theme – “Gearing Organizations for Change: Issues, Challenges and the Path Ahead.” The panellists were Ms. Reetu Raina, Head of HR – Network Software and Group Head for Talent and Culture at Sterlite Tech; Mr. Chander Thapar, CHRO – Hiranandani Group of Companies; Mr. Ganesh Subramanian, Vice President, Human Resources – Ola & Mr. Amit Das, Director – HR & CHRO – Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd. (Times of India Group) had a wonderful debate. Dr. Sanjay Muthal was the moderator and helped in guiding the discussion. The panel concurred that the challenges before organizations today are the rapid pace of change and the increasing demand from stakeholders. In this scenario, speed of response and building adaptability is the key to dealing with change. The path ahead for organizations is to develop employees by getting them to acquire new skills to compete, excel and grow.

The conclave was one of three national level conventions which are annually organized by KIIT School of Management in the areas of HR, Marketing and Finance Management to bring industry closer to the academia. This year’s HR conclave provided students with an opportunity to interact with business leaders for holistic learning. The first session of the conclave was on the theme “End of Leadership or Rise of Intellectualism?” The panel comprised of – Mr. T.N. Hari, Head HR, Big Basket & Strategic Advisor, The Fundamentum Partnership, Mr. Sandeep Tyagi, Director-Group Human Capital, Samsung Electronics, Mr. Jerry Jose, Head HR, ICICI Lombard GIC, Mr. Swapnakant  Samal, Head- Policy, Processes Digitization, Talent Acquisition Group, Reliance Industries and Mr. Ramchandra  Honap, Head HR, Force Motors. The panellists were of the viewpoint that sweeping changes have already taken place in terms of composition of the work force, organizational culture and the prevailing HR systems and processes. Most of these changes are due to technological advancements. The advantages and disadvantages of the use of technology were discussed in detail. The discussion also stressed on the viability of ‘Gig Economy’ through platform driven technologies. Finally, the panel concluded that innovation is the key to the future of work where leadership is leveraged through technology.

The discussions in the second panel focused on the theme “Team work or Individual contribution?”. The panel comprised of – Mr. Kailas P, MD, Toshiba, Dr. Shwetaleena Bidyadhar, VP-Learning Design, TIS, division of MPS Interactive Systems, Mr. Vivek Jain, EVP HR, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Mr. Sabyasachi Das, Global Head of Product Engineering, Digital Workplace, DXC Technologies and Mr. Satyadeep Mishra, VP-HR & TM, Reliance Jio. The panel started its discussion by debating on the impediments to change in organizations. They also emphasized that young India is a wealth of creativity and innovation. Thus the employable youth are individualistic in their work orientation. Finally, in their conclusion they were in agreement with the first panel in stressing that technology would help sustain human capital in their continual quest for up gradation of skills and knowledge.

The second half of the conclave saw Large Scale Interactive Process (LSIP) discussions on six relevant sub themes. Twenty four parallel round table discussions were held on the following sub themes – “Gig Economy Learning, Manpower Unplanning, Remodelling Work & Work Structure, Lifelong Employment towards lifelong Employability, Competing with Artificial Intelligence with Reskilling and Adding Value with New Age Education”. Each table had an industry leader and a local HR professional leading the discussion with the students.

The conclave was one of four national level conventions which are annually organized by KIIT School of Management in the areas of HR, Marketing, Finance and Operations Management to bring industry closer to the academia. This year’s HR conclave provided students with an opportunity to interact with business leaders and policy makers for holistic learning. The conclave was received enthusiastically by industry professionals, academia and students and bought into focus the challenges of the future of human resource management.

The first track focused on the main theme of the conclave. The panel comprised of Mr. Ajay Kaul, Ex-President & CEO, Jubilant Foodworks; Ms. Lata Menon, Senior VP – HR; Aegis Ltd.; Mr. Ashok Kumar Mohanty, VP – Strategic Transformation, Business Excellence, Tata Housing & Development; Mr. Tojo Jose, CHRO, Muthoot Fincorp Ltd. and Mr. Sandeep Banerjee, VP – HR, Reliance Infrastructure Ltd. The discussions concentrated on the changing roles of HR leaders in a fast emerging digitalized world. Given the importance and the work values of Gen Z in today’s organization, HR professionals need to capitalize on building human quotient. The panel also discussed the importance of mentoring and coaching for employees.

The second track comprised of Mr. Chandrashekhar Pingali, Founder & Managing Director, ICube Consortium Pte. Ltd.; Ms. Meenaa Sharma, CHRO, Reliance Money; Mr. Chandrashekhar Mukherjee, Group Chief People Officer, SREI Infrastructure Ltd.; Mr. Vivekanand Roy, VP & Head FTTX, Reliance Jio Infocomm and Mr. Umesh Kamath, Director – HR, Robosoft. The theme of the second track was “Impact of Technology on Restructuring Traditional Human Resource Practices”. The panel started the discussion by talking about the relationship between Human Capital and Human Resource Management. The panel felt that at a strategic level despite the all-pervasive nature of technology, human touch would always retain its importance. Hence, the biggest challenge today is the unification of human touch and technology.

The second half of the day commenced with the third track on the theme “New Frontiers in HR and Business”. The panelists of the track were Mr. Himanshu Chakrawarti, CEO, HiCare Services; Mr. Prabir Kumar Ray, Advisor – Strategy and Business Development, Prism Cement, Johnson Tiles and RMC India; Mr. Prashant Srivastava, President – Human Capital and People Excellence, Reliance Group.; Mr. Vijay Sinha, Sr. VP – HR, JSW Energy Ltd.; Mr. Ashish Anand, Director and Head of HR, Religare Finvest Ltd. The panel concurred that with the gradual disappearance of vertical boundaries and the greater use of technology, there emerge new challenges and opportunities for the spectrum of HR in aligning with the larger vision of the organization.

The final session of the conclave had ten informative and interactive workshops with thought-provoking discussions on topics such as Role of HR in Building and Engaging a Virtual Workforce; Sweeping Changes in Labor Legislations; Role of HR in Mergers and Acquisitions.
