Like every year a formal Welcome Ceremony was organised by the second year students of BBA programme to introduce the newly inducted first year students of BBA programme to the entire SOM family. This year the event took place on 7th September at KSOM Auditorium which was named as “Neoteric La Hausse – the fresher’s rising”.
The dress code of the event was traditional Indian wear. The Program started at 2.30 PM with the traditional tilak ceremony and escorting the newly arrived SOM member to their respective seats. Bouquet was presented to Prof. Ashok K. Sar, Dean, SOM followed by lighting of the lamp. Dean Sir along with Prof. P. R Sahoo, BBA Coordinator formally welcomed the BBA 1st year students.
A classical Dance was performed by Madhurima Gupta and Swati Mishra of 2nd year on the welcome note. After that the events proceed with the ramp walk of the first year student followed with a short introduction. A series of dances were performed by Dhanesh and group, sourav and group and Ankita and group. A special dance performance was done by Anurag Tirky. A duet song was performed by Joyeta and Supreeti, as well as a solo performance was given by Neil.
The newly fresher’s were encouraged to showcase their talent and a lot of students came forward to project their skills. There was a 15 minutes refreshment break. After that the stage was taken over by the 3rd year students to entertain the audience. A modern version of Ramayana was performed by Gourav and group, the direction and script of the play was done by Gourav and Mayank. Then the short listing of the students for the crown of Mr and Miss Fresher’s followed by 1 minute to show case their talent. The judges for selecting Mr and Miss Fresher’s were Prof. Bandana Das, Prof. Pooja Mohanty and Prof. Priti Rachayeeta. As the jury were short listing the top 4 each from girls and boys, Karan and group gave a performance.
As the performance ended the top 4 students were asked to come up on the stage and do a ramp walk. Then came the question-answer round. Dean Sir asked two questions which was common to all students. The questions comprises of Indian custom having impact on the entire world and who is the person according to them inspire the people across the globe. Each student gave very different answer which showed the level of intelligence they possessed. As the jury took time to decide this year’s Mr and Miss Fresher’s, the hosts of the day entertained the SOM family. But at last the moment arrived, the crown of Mr. and Miss. Fresher went to Abhijeet Mohanty and Palak Das. Our previous year Mr Fresher Deepuk Sharma and Miss Fresher Sneha Chatterjee crowned the new Mr and Miss fresher.
Abhijeet Mohanty and Palak Das of BBA-I were crowned Mr and Miss Fresher respectively during the Fresher Welcome Ceremony “Neoteric La Hausse – the fresher’s rising” on 7th September, 2012.
The evening concluded with a small musical dance party at the amphitheatre and a gala dinner was organised by the school on this occasion.
