Prof. (Dr.) S.N. Misra, Dean
Ph.D. (Economics), MA (Applied Economics)
Dr. Misra post-graduated in Applied Economics in 1976 with first division and joined the Indian Economic Service, the same year. He served in the Ministry of Finance (1977-79) in the IMF/ World Bank Division as a Research Officer. Subsequently, he joined the Indian Defence Accounts Service (1979), where he worked with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam as his Director (Finance) (1995-98). He was Additional Financial Advisor and Joint Secretary to the Army and Air Force (2004-2008) and Joint Secretary (Aerospace) (2008-2010). During this period he authored the Defence Procurement Manual (2005), drawing encomiums from the Prime Minister’s Office and facilitated signing of a Joint Venture Agreement with Russia for Co-design, development & production of a Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft.
He was part of RM’s delegation to several countries like USA, Russia, France, Germany and trained in International Resource Business Management School, California, Defence Acquisition School, Washington and Marshal Institute of Strategic Studies, Munich. He did Management Development Programme with IIM, Calcutta and on Contract Management at IIM, Bangalore.
Prof. Misra oversaw the audit, accounting and finance functions of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard as the Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (2010-12) before joining the KIIT University as Professor in Economics & Constitutional Law in the School of Law in 2012. He is also the Director, School of Leadership since 2013, mentoring both tribal and other students from KIIT University to achieve excellence and placement in lucrative Civil Service and Banking assignments.
With very strong commitment towards academics and research, he has a pioneering book on “Self Reliance in Critical Defence Technology”, 34 articles in acclaimed professional journals and contributed a paper to a book on Defence Acquisition, released by our Prime Minister. He speaks regularly in prestigious schools like ISB, Hyderabad, reputed training establishments like National Audit Academy, Shimla, NIFM, Faridabad, CDM, Secunderabad, NADFM, Pune. With strong academic moorings in trade and development economics and very strong professional exposure in financial management, he considers it a privilege for him to join SOM as the Dean. He looks forward to bolstering, amongst the faculty a yen for research, inculcating greater seriousness amongst students towards academics and up-scaling connect with the corporate for undertaking more project work and conducting myriad Management Development Programmes.
